One funny one can be quoted : Cobra, a composition by John Zorn which is a kind of game :
Soundpainting
Soundpainting is a real time gestural language created by Walter Thompson in 1974.
It can be used for several type of perfomers (dancers, musicians, actors..).
It consists of a dictionary of signs (more than 1200 signs, still evolving) that can be used to order one performer to do (or not do) something.
The result is a composed improvisation.
This type of improvisation echoes the NIFI movement, but came back to some kind of structure. Whereas is Jazz, the structure is given by the chord progression, here the structure is given in real time by the soundpainter (i.e. the person who does the signs).
In a sense, the performers are freer than in jazz because they influence (indirectly) the structure, because the soundpainter reacts to what he hears/see.
